Fireworks Ignite CPL in Week 5

Happy Birthday USA!  What better way to honor the great country which we live but to embark on an epic adventure with America’s fastest growing sport?

Match 1:  The Brown’s (M/J) vs The Zimmerman’s

The night was kicked off with a 4th of July magic trick.  Some celebratory Voodoo Juice sent Jerica back in time and transformed into a teenage Okuley boy to pair with Mike for team Brown.  Rob and Lisa, however, came out like a Roman Candle with Rob serving 11 straight points to win Game 1 without even conceding the serve.  Team Brown would not be pickled a second time, but the Zimmerman’s mojo could not be stopped as they took the match with an 11-2 win in game 2.

Match 2:  The Brown’s (M/J)  vs The Sullivan’s

The Sullivan’s were next on tap for the Brown’s with both teams looking to et back into the winner’s circle.  After some refreshments, Match 2 began in an evenly matched affair.  The teams split the first two games with the same score of 11-7 favoring the winning side to set up an epic Game 3.  In a back and forth game never separated by more than 4 points, the Sullivan’s had the serve down 10-9 and Mr. Momentum in their corner.  A terrific rally ended with Mike slapping a shot that hit the net and dropped dead on the other side to regain the serve for Team Brown.  Now serving for the win, Jerica’s imposter served it deep to set another terrific rally.  Unfathomably, the exact same shot hit the net and dropped in for Team Brown to end the rally and, in turn, sent Ben and Hannah to an 11-9 defeat.

Match 3:  The Sullivan’s vs The Donaldson’s

Fresh off a stinging loss The Sullivan’s were looking to regroup against the Donaldson’s.  It is unknown what the Sullivans had done to displease the Pickleball Gods, but their luck kept pace from the previous game with Brian serving 11 straight to win Game 1 in an 11-0 pickle.  After switching sides of the court, Game 2 was on and held steady early with the teams drawing to a 3-3 tie.  It was then that 2 minute rally with some impressive defensive shots by both Ben and Hannah proved to be the tipping point.  Despite a valiant rally, the Donaldson’s dropped a dinker right inside the line and never looked back to take the Game 11-3 and continue their great start to the season.

Match 4:  The Donaldson’s vs The Zimmerman’s

Next up, the Zimmerman’s were looking to keep their momentum going against the Donaldson’s and raced out to a 3-5 lead in Game 1 with rob showcasing his ambidexterity with precision.  A certain look by Sarah, however, changed the tone and the Donaldson’s were able to score the next 8 to secure Same 1 by a score of 11-5.  Game 2 was again very close at the beginning with the teams tied at 5-5 and both defenses proving to be stifling.  It was then that Sarah took the reigns and powered the Donaldson’s through to an 11-6 win to keep their season unblemished.

Match 5:  The Sullivan’s vs The Zimmerman’s

The grand finale for the evening was upon us with the Zimmerman’s and Sullivan’s looking to end the evening on a high note.  A highly entertaining match featured a lot of spousal support being vocalized throughout the match throughout some very impressive rallies.  Rob and Lisa, however took over with a Wham, Bam, Thank you Uncle Sam kind of performance to win in straight games 11-6 and 11-2.
